S4: Defiant Heavyweight Final

15 Sep, 2005

imageDefiant’s Heavyweight Pentad Cup will be decided on Saturday 17 September at 8.00pm BST, when The Harbingers of DOOOOOOM will take on Divine Circle.

The Harbingers of DOOOOOOM (team leader Rose Knight, Empath, Blazing Bio, Cryonic and Icelock) will need a single win to defeat Divine Circle. Led by Mr ?, The Circle team (Deception, Eldor, Tritonos and Fyreball) will need two victories against the undefeated Harbingers.

As in Union’s Heavyweight Cup, the two finalist teams have already met before in the second round, where the Harbingers walked away with a handy 24-7 victory. Since then, though, Divine Circle have carved a path through the Losers Bracket, defeating all comers. There’s no doubt that they’re worthy finalists - the question will be whether they can match the impressive total KOs that The Harbingers of DOOOOOOM have racked up in most of their matches. As German Community Coordinator Amboss keeps telling us, “Offense wins matches, but defence wins tournaments”.

Robert Weinberg interview

13 Sep, 2005

This Autumn will see the release of the first in a trilogy of City of Heroes novels, which promises to reveal more of the background of Paragon City and the Rogue Isles and many of the signature heroes and villains that inhabit them. WarCry has been talking to the author of City of Heroes: The Web of Arachnos, Robert Weinberg:

The Web of Arachnos is Statesman’s story. It tells how he obtained his powers, what his connection is with Paragon City, and how he became the city’s first super-powered crime fighter. It also describes his relationship with Lord Recluse, the leader of Arachnos, and the reasons they hate each other so much. It also tells about the founding of the Freedom Phalanx and something about the organization’s original members. The story takes place in the 1930’s so it forms the background for everything that follows in City of Heroes.

S4: Defiant Bantamweight Final

13 Sep, 2005

imageAfter a hard-fought Semi-Final, The Ninja Pornstars and the SSG Tricksters are preparing to meet again in Defiant’s Bantamweight Pentad Cup Final on Tuesday 20 September at 9.00pm BST.

Led by Hornet Girl, The Ninja Pornstars (Zombie Guy, Stygian, White Spectre and DaRock) got off to a blistering start in the Super Summer Slam Spectacular, with a 74-6 victory, and have remained unbeaten right through to the Final, meaning that they will only have to win one more match to emerge victorious. The SSG Tricksters (SSG Controller, SSG Tank, SSG Blaster and SSG Defender, with SSG Scrapper as team leader) also had an impressive record until they met the Ninjas in the Semi-Final, but their loss there means that they will require two consecutive wins to take the Cup.

As with the Union Bantamweight Final, this should be a fantastic match between two teams who have everything to fight for. Don’t miss it!

S4: Union Heavyweight Final

10 Sep, 2005

imageThe Heavyweight Pentad Cup Final on Union will see the Global Gladiators take on the Fusion Stalking Allstars on Thursday 15 September at 9.30pm BST.

Led by Lady White, the Global Gladiators (BRUTE FORCE, Battle Medic, Blue Rocker and Doctor Frost) will need a single victory to win the Cup, as they have not yet lost a single match. Having already been defeated once in the early stages of the competition, the Fusion Stalking Allstars (team leader Cherry Fusion, Mimic, Knight Stalker, Seriphimus and Gatling) will need to prove their dominance twice in order to walk away as the victors.

The two teams have met once before in the second round of Union’s Heavyweight tournament, where the Gladiators won with a convincing 24-8 display. Since then, though, the Allstars have achieved a string of overwhelming victories against other teams, with impressive scores like 50-5, 60-2, 39-6 and 51-9, so it would be unwise to underestimate them…

S4: Union Bantamweight Final

10 Sep, 2005

imageThe Super Summer Slam Spectacular Pentad Cups have reached their final stages, and the Union’s Bantamweight Cup will be decided on Tuesday 13 September at 8pm BST when The Other Guys will face off against Team Redemption.

As yet undefeated in the competition, The Other Guys (consisiting of team leader Liability, Wrayth, Masked Skull, Billy Brown and Poweramp) will need to defeat Team Redemption just once to take the Cup. Team Redemption (Lekto, Zwermen, El Pollo and The Dark Infinity, led by Agent Roserk), on the other hand, will require two consecutive victories to claim the win.

This promises to be a close-fought and exciting match between two teams who met before in the Semi-Finals, where The Other Guys managed to fight Team Redemption to a 40-33 victory. Head on over to the Union Arena on Tuesday evening to see if The Other Guys can continue their unbroken run, or whether Team Redemption will get the better of them this time!
