Pre-order City of Heroes today!

17 Dec, 2004

We know it’s cheeky to talk about this sort of thing before Beta has even started, but we’d feel bad if we didn’t let you know about this as soon as we did....

If you’re the kind of person always on the lookout for a bargain, then you probably spend a lot of time shopping online. In which case you might have already found City of Heroes available for pre-order, but in case you haven’t… here are the online ‘e-tailers’ who are on the ball, with their prices as of today.

(The official recommended retail price is £29.99 in the UK, €44.99 in Europe, by the way, with local prices varying if your country does not use Euros. You can read what I just said in an FAQ too, if you like. wink)

UPDATED: We removed the prices listed for individual retailers, as they’ll probably change in future anyway. Additions to this list are welcome; leave a comment below if you find another retailer.

Click on a name to see the relevant City of Heroes page:

Amazon.co.uk
Game
Gameplay
HMV
Play.com
Simply Games
Special Reserve

In case you’re wondering, all of these retailers will be selling the City of Heroes Deluxe edition (or City of Heroes Deluxe; or CoHD… or whatever other acronym you prefer).

About now, you’re probably wondering just what’s inside such a Deluxe edition to give it that name - well step this way, as we have an FAQ that answers just that question.

So, it’s more or less the same as the US Collectors Edition, but sans Hero Clix figure and with a comic digest instead? Eh, thats not too shabby at all :D

I was planning to pre order but some questiosn stock me which i needed answered first,then I can pre order;

1. Will this game start supporting timecards???? I cant get a cc

2. Will there be anymore shops, like some located in holland be added(i’d like to order from a dutch shop, like I do with all my online orders)

3. Will the pre orders get any kind of bonus in comparing to the people who buy the game after release ??

thx

Tempting to order it now… but I think I’ll wait and see what can be done with my current US account - hope to see if I can upgrade it with the code from the Euro box, get on the Euro servers, and still stay on the US servers.

I’ve no problem with buying another copy of the game, but I’d rather not run two accounts if I can help it wink

Does the Game come with any free months of play? and how much will it be to play per month?

Virgin retail are taking preorders on COH, £5 off for a £1 deposit, if you want to buy it in a shop.

Joeri:

1) Yes, it will do, although timecards won’t be in retail until after launch - within your first 30 days of included time, though, so don’t worry you won’t ā€˜lose’ any play time.

2) Yes, as soon as they’re available, we’ll put them up. If you find any online please let us know in these comments. /images/smileys/grin.gif

3) No, although those who do pre-order are certain to get the Deluxe edition - which won’t be available forever - and does include the Comic Digest and Prestige Power.

Steven: City of Heroes comes with 30 days of play time included in the box.

Final subscription prices are still being determined, but will be released before launch. They’ll be very competitive with other MMO games.

ElDee: I’m afraid you won’t be able to ā€˜upgrade’ your US account. However, we’re working on a solution to ensure you won’t have to buy another copy of the game if you’d like to start playing on the EU servers.

In addition, if you’d prefer to stay on the US servers, you’re welcome to do that.

Ultimately though if you want to play on both servers, you’ll need two accounts.

Amazon.co.uk also has the game for £26.99 (http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B0006IS3NW)

BTW I must say that I really dig your sense of humour and style of writing. /images/smileys/wink.gif Many (none mentioned, none forgotten) official game website refer to themselves at the most important people / companies in the world that are creating something tremendously important, and you’re way of writing really makes you remember that what games and gaming is all about; having fun.

Thanks, and keep up the very good work.Ā  /images/smileys/shade_smile.gif

Simon, thanks for the Amazon tip. /images/smileys/grin.gif

Thanks also for the kind words. Believe me, this was all planned. /images/smileys/wink.gif

Keep on blogging!

Judging by most MMOG standards out there imy guess is the monthly fee will be 15€ to 17€ max.. Just my thoughts /images/smileys/smile.gif

Ultimately though if you want to play on both servers, you’ll need two accounts.

Thanks for clearing that up, first time I’ve seen the answer stated as clearly as that. it’s usually just ā€œwe’re working on a solutionā€.

Looks like I’ve got a tough choice to make. Stick with my current SG and stay up late, or find a new gang and go to bed at a reasonable hour /images/smileys/smile.gif

Any plans regarding the comic book besides the Digest in the Deluxe box?

0Posted by Night Raven on 27 Dec at 05:09

I’ve got a real dilemma now. I live in London UK and the wife bought me COH (import copy for Xmas)which I really wanted.

But now I find out the UK deluxe version is out on the 4th Feb, I dont know whether to create an account on an existing server, or wait til I can ā€œpowerslideā€ onto a Brit server,as it says above I cant do both.

Help and advice please

Cheers,

if you want to puchase a 60 day game trial for city of heroes this site:

http://www.atomicpixie.com/product.asp?id=4600

do them for £17.79. could you please tell me if there real.

0Posted by Nefarious on 20 Jan at 22:24

i’m also from holland and seeing getting a credit card just to play a MMOG will be too expensive for me i’d like to play using time cards, but i’ve searched the net and dont see any dutch retailers selling them, nor do i find one online retailer that sends time cards abroad (so to holland), so does this mean us dutchies are doomed to play using credit cards only? If someone does find a dutch retailer (or another online retailer that send abroad) selling these cards, please let it know
