From screen to page

If a preview of the forthcoming City of Heroes comic from Top Cow wasn’t enough, how about a chat with the man responsible for melding the vision of Cryptic Studios and writer Mark Waid into a coherent whole? The guys over at ComicDomain have managed to drag artist David Nakayama away from his drawing board long enough to talk about the unique challenges of transfering the action from a computer screen to the page:
As City of Heroes already has a set ‘look and feel’ has it helped or hindered your creativity?
It’s actually a big help. While it is a huge challenge to match all the characters and locations with their counterparts in the game, I don’t have to design EVERYTHING myself, and that saves time. And no one’s forcing a particular style on me either, so I can draw on my strengths and really go all-out.
As you see from the preview pages at Newsarama and the exclusive pencil sketches at ComicDomain, Nakayama going “all-out” has resulted in some great artwork for the new book. You can read the full interview here.
