Super Summer Slam Spectacular - Week 1
19 Jul, 2005
The Super Summer Slam Spectacular got off to a roaring start last week, with the first round of matches in the Heavyweight and Bantamweight Pentad Cups on both Union and Defiant.
After the anticipation of the registration period, the teams were raring to go, and the week provided some spectacular matches, ranging from closely-fought tactical battles to stand-up, knock-down brawls. The Arenas of Paragon City reverberated with the sounds of heroic battle, the cheers of the victors, and the cries of the fallen.

Defiant Heavyweight
The Latecomers and Team <blank> got the Super Summer Slam Spectacular off to an action-packed start on Thursday night, with the first Pentad Cup match on the English servers. In a running battle that moved up and down a single street, the plucky heroes of Team <blank> eventually racked up 34 KOs - 13 of them from Plight Trawler’s electrical blasts and an impressive 14 from the scrapping of Marius.
The bulk of the other Heavyweight matches were concluded in a massive round of battles on Sunday night,
including an impressive performance from Sociopath Central in their match against The Green Team, which concluded with a 27-15 win for the Sociopaths, a dominating display from The Last Stand PwnX0rZ who racked up a massive 53 KOs against The Disorganised’s 3, and the closest battle of the Division so far, which saw The Last Stand OMG WE KILL U come out just ahead of The Goonie Smash Squad 1, 21-19.
When the dust finally settled, the first week’s results were:
- Team 8 - The Latecomers vs Team 9 - Team <blank>: 14-34

- Team 13 - Sociopath Central vs Team 4 - The Green Team: 27-15

Defiant Bantamweight
With 11 registered teams, the Bantamweight Pentad Cup on Defiant got off to a slightly less frantic start than the Heavyweight Division, with three matches in the first week.
The most outstanding display came from The Ninja Pornstars, who racked up an insurmountable 74 KOs - no less than 36 of them from team leader Hornet Girl - against The Shooting Stars, who despite a valiant effort could only claim 6 for themselves. The Ninjas will definitely be a team to watch in the coming weeks.
Final results for the first week were:
- Team 8 - SSG Tricksters vs Team 9 - The Underdogs: 26-13
- Team 6 - The Bantam Gladiators vs Team 11 - Team Spam: 8-29
- Team 10 - The Shooting Stars vs Team 7 - The Ninja Pornstars: 6-74
Union Heavyweight
Ten registered teams made for two matches in the first week of the clash of Union’s titans.
Rage’s Roughnecks suffered at the hands (and other damaging bits) of The Also Rans!, taking 41 KOs and only managing to dish out 8 in return. The Fusion Stalking Allstars found Random Violence a more challenging foe, but claimed the win with 29 KOs to 12.
Final results:
- Team 8 - The Also Rans! vs Team 9 - Rage’s Roughnecks: 41-8
- Team 10 - Random Violence vs Team 7 - Fusion Stalking Allstars: 12-29
Union Bantamweight
The Bantamweight Pentad Cup on Union got off to a quick start, with only a single match in the first week of the competition.
Agency Academy met NHU Team Unity, and thanks to excellent displays from their Blaster, Zero Shift, and Scrapper, Fridan, who racked up 18 and 15 KOs respectively, NHU took the win with 38 KOs to 25.
Final Results:
- Team 8 - Agency Academy vs Team 9 - NHU Team Unity: 25-38
On to Week 2
All in all, then an electrifying start to the Super Summer Slam Spectacular,
with every team enjoying themselves regardless of the result. And due to the nature of the Double Elimination tournament format, this week’s losing teams are still in the running - a team is only eliminated from the competition after two losses - and so could still take their server’s Pentad Cup in the finals!
There’s a way to go yet, though, and literally anything could happen. In the meantime, the matches for the second week of S4 have been announced - details can be found over at the Official Message Boards on the appropriate S4 board.
