Game Guide

Your Primary Power Set

With your Archetype and Origin picked, it’s time to get into the nitty gritty, starting with your Primary Power Set. Here’s where you’ll really start to define your new heroic persona.

Your Primary Power Set will vary depending on which Archetype you choose in the first step; your choice of Origin does not affect this (but you might find it interesting to rationalise that Assault Rifle with your Magic Origin...).

The powers you will choose in your Primary Power Set are the most important and most effective abilities you will have in the game. They will in many ways define your character, so it’s often easy to create a character with these powers in mind.

For instance, want a rough, tough, fisticuffs kind of hero? Perhaps a Scrapper with Martial Arts as their Primary Power Set would be good. Want to dominate men’s minds, and force them to do things against their will? A Controller with Mind Control will be perfect.

Take the time to study the different powers available to each Primary Power Set corresponding to your Archetype; they are all different from each other and – in some cases – radically different, at least in look and feel. A Scrapper using Claws will feel quite different to play than one using Spines.

However, broadly speaking, you will find many powers similar in their gameplay effects; this ensures that you cannot miss out on a ‘killer power’ that’s available in one Primary Power Set, and not in another.

Once you’ve decided on your Primary Power set, you’ll have a choice of one of two starting powers. You’ll be able to choose each of these powers at higher levels, if you wish, so the effects of this choice are only temporary! However, you can only use powers from the Primary Power Set you choose at this stage, so choose carefully.

With your first power chosen, we move on to the Secondary Power Set, which will further define your character.

A Hero’s Journey

Our scientist Blaster is coming along, but where will his powers lie?

Our hero was changed by scientific experiments; they didn’t make the scientist pick up a gun or bow, so Archery and Assault Rifle are out, leaving Electrical, Energy, Fire, Ice and Sonic powers. Maybe our scientist was an electrical engineer? Or a nuclear physicist? We prefer the sound of a cryogenics professor, though, so we’ll choose the Ice power set.

Ice Bolt or Ice Blast? Ice Bolt is fast - it takes little time to recharge - but doesn’t do too much damage. Ice Blast is a little slower to recharge, but has more ‘oomph’. In the end we go for the higher damage option. We want our hero to make an impression. Besides, we can always come back to Ice Bolt at a later level.
