Writing a Character Description

Stand out from the crowd! Give your hero some depth with a back-story and battle cry.

The final stage in creating your hero is to fill out your Paragon City Hero Registration – your hero’s I.D. card. This card is accessible (and updatable) while playing City of Heroes, so if you don’t want to take the time to fill it in just yet you don’t have to - but you might want to take a little time over it, as other players can read your character description. (To view another player’s info, right click on them in game, and choose ‘Info’.) You can view their description, powers, badges earned and prowess in the Arena.)

Your character description doesn’t have to be the story of your hero’s origin, although most players will use this space for that. If you prefer you can give more details that can’t be communicated via your costume alone – what does your hero sound like, for example? Does that hulking, stone golem of a hero smell particularly different than most? What bad habits does your hero have? Are they new to Paragon City or a long-term resident? You can, if you wish, add much more detail to your hero here than your costume and powers can convey.

If you do want to tell the story of your hero, try and come up with a tale that fits with the origin, archetype, costume and name you have chosen. How did your hero come to get their powers, and how does that fit with your chosen origin? Why does your hero have that particular Primary and Secondary Power Set – especially if they seem to clash with their origin? Who made their costume? Why did your hero come to Paragon City? Why do they want to fight crime?

This description can be edited later and added to as your hero advances through Paragon City and gains new powers and prestige. If you like, you can continually update the description with accounts of your hero’s greatest deeds.

Finally, if you wish, you can also add a Battle Cry, which will be shouted aloud (well, in the in-game chat) when you press F10 – so be imaginative, and distinctive!

This is the easy part, as we’ve already established our hero’s background, so we just write it down as you can see here. As for the Battle Cry, we’ll make that ice-themed too – bonus points for consistency!
